WHAT IS WATER?
|
|
|
The
chemistry of life.
A
High percentage of living things, both plant and animal are found in
water. All life on earth is thought to have arisen from water. The
bodies of all living organisms are composed largely of water. About 70
to 90 percent of all organic matter is water.
The
chemical reactions in all plants and animals that support life take
place in a water medium. Water not only provides the medium to make
these life sustaining reactions possible, but water itself is often an
important reactant or product of these reactions. In short, the
chemistry of life is water chemistry.
Water
is a universal, superb solvent due to the marked polarity of the water
molecule and its tendency to form hydrogen bonds with other molecules.
It
is the most common substance found on earth. Water covers 80% of our
planet. Over 97% of the world’s water is sea water and an additional
2% is tied up in polar ice caps. This
means that all the rivers, streams, lakes and reservoirs in the world
constitute only one percent of the earth’s water.
Without it life could not exist
The
human body is 69% water, the human brain 85% water, human bones 25%
water, human blood 83% water. It’s
our body’s most vital need together with Oxygen.
The human body can only survive 3 days without water.
The average person loses 2.5 liters of water every day from
perspiration, respiration, urination and defecation.
The human body craves both water and oxygen, however, as
population increases and industry grows, our supply of fresh pure, and
healthy water per person rapidly diminishes.
The
human population explosion and growth of industry has now caused serious
world-wide water pollution. At
the present time, most of the rivers and lakes of the world are already
polluted or at least threatened with human waste products.
The water used by agriculture and industry is returned to
streams, lakes and the ocean often with various pollutants present.
These pollutants may contain metallic salts of mercury, arsenic,
copper and lead, as well as nutrients such as phosphates and nitrates.
Organic pesticides such as DDT are also discharged into our water
systems. Did you know that
to produce one ton of steel for a small automobile requires 100 000
gallons of water or that to produce ½ a ton of gasoline (about 130
gallons) requires 1 million gallons of water?
It
is therefore understandable when Dr Viktor Schauberger predicts that
“one day a good bottle of water would be more expensive than a bottle
of good wine”. |
|
| WATER
THE UNIVERSAL SOLVENT |
|
|
Water
is a universal, superb solvent due to the marked polarity of the
water molecule and its tendency to form hydrogen bonds with other
molecules. One water
molecule , expressed with the chemical symbol H2O,
consists of 2 hydrogen atoms and 1 oxygen atom.
|

|
|
|
 |
Standing
alone, the hydrogen atom contains one positive proton at its core
with one negative electron revolving around it in a three
dimensional shell. Oxygen
on the other hand, contains 8 protons at its nucleus with 8
electrons revolving around it.
This is often shown in chemical notation as the letter O
surrounded by eight dots representing four sets of paired
electrons.
|
|
|
|
The
single hydrogen electron and the 8 electrons of oxygen are the key to
the chemistry of life because this is where the hydrogen and oxygen
atoms combine to form a water molecule or split to form ions.
Hydrogen
tends to ionize (gain or lose an electron) by losing its single electron
to form single H+ ions which are simply isolated protons since the
hydrogen atom contains no neutrons.
A hydrogen bond occurs when the electron of a single hydrogen
atom is shared with another electronegative atom such as oxygen that
lacks an electron.
|
|
Polarity
of water molecules
In
a water molecule, two hydrogen atoms are covalently bonded to the oxygen
atom. But because the oxygen atom is larger than the hydrogenous, its
attraction for the hydrogen's electrons is correspondingly greater so
the electrons are drawn closer into the shell of the larger oxygen atom
and away from the hydrogen shells. This means that although the water
molecule as a whole is stable, the greater mass of the oxygen nucleus
tends to draw in all the electrons in the molecule including the shared
hydrogen electrons giving the oxygen portion of the molecule a slight
electronegative charge. |
|
|
The
shells of the hydrogen atoms, because their electrons are closer
to the oxygen, take on a small electropositive charge. This means
water molecules have a tendency to form weak bonds with water
molecules because the oxygen end of the molecule is negative and
the hydrogen ends are positive. |

|
|
|
|
A
hydrogen atom, while remaining covalently bonded to the oxygen of its
own molecule, can form a weak bond with the oxygen of another molecule.
Similarly, the oxygen end of a molecule can form a weak attachment with
the hydrogen ends of other molecules. Because water molecules have this
polarity, water is a continuous chemical entity. |
|
|
A
hydrogen atom, while remaining covalently bonded to the oxygen of its
own molecule, can form a weak bond with the oxygen of another molecule.
Similarly, the oxygen end of a molecule can form a weak attachment with
the hydrogen ends of other molecules. Because water molecules have this
polarity, water is a continuous chemical entity.
These
weak bonds play a crucial role in stabilizing the shape of many of the
large molecules found in living matter. Because these bonds are weak,
they are readily broken and re-formed during normal physiological
reactions. The disassembly and re-arrangement of such weak bonds is in
essence the chemistry of life. |
|
 |
To illustrate
water's ability to break down other substances, consider the
simple example of putting a small amount of table salt in a glass
of tap water. With dry salt (NaCl) the attraction between the
electropositive sodium (Na+) and electronegative chlorine (Cl-)
atoms of salt is very strong until it is placed in water. After
salt is placed in water, the attraction of the electronegative
oxygen of the water molecule for the positively charged sodium
ions, and the similar attraction of the electropositive hydrogen
ends of the water molecule for the negatively charged chloride
ions, are greater than the mutual attraction between the
outnumbered Na+ and Cl- ions. |
|
|
|
In
water the ionic bonds of the sodium chloride molecule are broken easily
because of the competitive action of the numerous water molecules. |
|
|
|
|
|
As
we can see from this simple example, even the delicate configuration of
individual water molecules enables them to break relatively stronger
bonds by converging on them. This is why we call water the universal
solvent. It is a natural solution that breaks the bonds of larger, more
complex molecules. This is the chemistry of life on earth, in water and
on land.

| WHY
WE NEED
WATER |
|
-
It
lubricates our joints and organs, assists our muscles, heart,
tissue, every cell and organ of the body needs water to function
optimally.
-
It
is our greatest cleanser and detoxifier.
-
It
prevents premature aging of the skin and internal tissue.
-
Water
regulates our optimal weight by helping properly digest our food we
eat and eliminate waste. Drinking
adequate amount of water naturally suppresses the appetite as well
as helping to decrease fat deposits by metabolizing them.
-
It
assists in the absorption of nutrients and chemical reactions
-
Water
is essential for proper circulation in the body
-
Water
regulates the body’s cooling system
-
Dehydration
impairs kidney function
-
High
blood pressure, hypertension, is a result of an adaptive process to
a gross body water deficiency.
-
Not
drinking enough water will actually cause the body to retain water!
-
Lack
of water leaves us in a weakened state, vulnerable to attack from
disease, weakens the body’s immune system and leads to chemical,
nutritional and pH imbalances that can cause a host of diseases.
|
| WHICH
WATER TO DRINK? |
|
|
The
quality of the water we drink is also of paramount importance.
It
has been said that “Pure water may become the medicine of the future.
‘Oxygen enriched and fee of radioactive and chemical
compounds’ may read on the label of our bottled water in the next
millenium.” – Dr F Batmajhelidj
We
are now in the midst of a water boom. Consumers are buying various kinds
of bottled and canned water even though water is one of our most
abundant vital resources. Research data reveals that mineral waters have
an ORP of +200 mV, slightly lower than the +400 mV measured for ordinary
tap water. We can say that at least mineral water is marginally better
than tap water from the viewpoint of ORP. Compared to any processed
water for sale, however, ionized water with its reduction potential of
-250 to -300 mV is beyond comparison due to its ability to scavenge
active oxygen radicals. Freshly squeezed organic
Orange Juice has a –250 ORP. (explanation of ORP follows later)
Bottled,
Spring, Ground and Mineral Water
– there are thousands of
sources and manufacturers of these waters globally all with varying
standards. Some are good
and some not so good. Many
have been found to be bacterially and otherwise contaminated.
Spring water
contains unwanted inorganic minerals and their purity is debatable if
you consider the pollution of the soil. Many spring waters do contain
chloroforms (responsible for pathogens which are disease causing).
Purified
Water (Distilled or Reverse Osmosis)
– Do not drink this water.
This water is completely stripped of its memory and all trace elements. This
is water that has had all the minerals removed from it using various
processes so it is literally H2O.
Since it is so pure it absorbs carbon dioxide out of the air
which makes it acidic and even more aggressive at dissolving substances
it comes into contact with. It usually has little or no dissolved oxygen in it and is
therefore referred to as “dead” water.
It leaches minerals from your body and makes you more acidic.
It also
absorbs the electrolytes within the body (sodium, potassium, chloride)
and trace minerals like magnesium, deficiencies can cause heart beat
irregularities and high blood pressure.
“Purified” water is aggressive, dissolves many metals and
robs the body of vital nutrients. The
most toxic commercial beverages that people consumer (i.e. cola
beverages) are made from purified water.
The body is not comfortable in an acidic state and buffers this
by removal of minerals from the skeleton and bicarbonate in the blood
causing mineral deficiencies.
Softened
Water (sodium)
– never drink water that has been softened with salt.
Softening takes out the good minerals and replaces it with twice
as much salt. It will set
your metabolism out of balance and send your blood pressure to nose
bleed heights.
Municipal
Water (Tap Water)
– Most tap water is fit to drink except for the fact that tap water
today contains bacteria, viruses, organic/inorganic minerals – making
the water hard and on top of that added chemicals (chlorine, fluoride,
aluminum sulfate, etc) that contribute to a multitude of diseases and
illness. The chlorine in water is known to cause bladder, rectal and
pancreatic cancer. Chlorine
has been proven to be a long-term carcinogen.
It is also an oxidant which raises the Oxidation Reduction
Potential (ORP) of anything it comes into contact with, including your
body if you drink it. Since
chlorine is an oxidant, is oxidizes or ages your body.
It also disrupts digestion because it destroys lactobacillus, the
friendly bacteria, in our stomachs which retards the intake of nutrients
into the body.
City
supplied tap water contains an ample supply of acid minerals and
alkaline minerals. They use acids to kill living organisms in the water supply.
Then the water is too acidic to be sent out through the pipes as
this will leach out lead from soldered pipes which is poisonous, so
silver activated carbonate of calcium is added to make it alkaline and
remove poisonous metal and odour. In
general City/tap water contains more alkaline minerals than
ground/spring water.
Common
alkaline minerals are:
calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium.
Common
acid minerals:
chlorine, sulfur, phosphorous, bromine, silicon and fluorine
Water
Run Through a Filter
Most
water filters are a defensive device in that they remove some of the
impurities in the water prior to drinking.
They do not enhance the water and often the water becomes acid
rather than alkaline after filtration.
Knowing exactly when to change the filter is also often
problematic.
Ionized
Water – THE FOUNTAINHEAD WATERWELL©
(Alkaline
Water, Cluster Water, Micro Cluster Water, Reduced Water)
Ionized
water is by far one the most superior drinking waters available as it
removes impurities, has as an alkaline pH, is super oxygenated,
has a negative oxidation reduction potential and is supplied in
smaller water molecule clusters. It
is easy to achieve, consistent results, researched and has real health
benefits. It tastes smooth
and soft due to its high concentration of negative ions (typical of pure
mountain springs) and is refreshing. |
|
| BENEFITS
OF DRINKING IONIZED WATER |
|
|
Ionized
water has two antioxidant qualities or components to it.
Ionize means to gain or lose an electron.
In the case of ionized water, an electron is grabbed from one
oxygen molecule and donated to another making that oxygen molecule
become an antioxidant. Antioxidants
have this property of possessing an extra electron such as Vitamins A,
C, and E. It is miraculous
that normal tap water can be turned into an antioxidant.
Not only that, but it is an efficient antioxidant because it is a
liquid with small water molecule clusters and thus is more easily
absorbed into the body.
Oxidation
Reduction Reactions
Basically,
reduction means the addition of an electron (e-), and its converse,
oxidation means the removal of an electron. The addition of an electron,
stores energy in the reduced compound. The removal of an electron,
oxidation, liberates energy from the oxidized compound. Whenever one
substance is reduced, another is oxidized.
To
clarify these terms, consider any two molecules, A and B, for example.

| When
molecules A and B come into contact, here is what happens: |
-
B
grabs an electron from molecule A.
-
Molecule
A has been oxidized because it has lost an electron.
-
The
net charge of B has been reduced because it has gained a negative
electron (e-).
|
|
In
biological systems, removal or addition of an electron constitutes the
most frequent mechanism of oxidation-reduction reactions (eg cut apple
turning brown (oxidizing)is losing eletrons). These oxidation-reduction
reactions are frequently called redox reactions.
Virtually
all liquids have an ORP Oxidation Reduction Potential, which is the
millivoltage is possesses. Normal
tap water has an 300 to 400 ORP, meaning that the potential for reducing
oxidation is nonexistent. Only
a negative ORP can reduce or negate oxidation.
Alkaline Ionized Water has a –350 to –250 ORP, depending in
part on the amount of minerals in the source water and which level the
unit is on. This means it
has a very high potential for reducing oxidation.
Fresh squeezed orange juice has a –250 ORP, as do most other
freshly squeezed juices and vegetables.
However if they have been pasteurized or otherwise processed, the
antioxidant and negative ORP properties have been removed.
They also have a heavier molecular weight than water.
Oxidation
means to decay or age (as a metal rusts).
As things oxidize, the ORP rises.
A higher ORP also retards bacterial growth and if high enough
will kill bacteria. In the
human body oxidation is caused by free radical damage.
Free radicals are active oxygen molecules that have lost an
electron and become unstable. They
are caused by pollution, stress and poor diet.
Free
radicals that exist in our body grab an electron from one of our cells
to become stable and in the process damage the DNA cell so that when it
divides, the new cell carries the mutant DNA which in turn passes along
to the next cell when it divides. This
is the cause of many diseases and it is also part of what makes us age.
As we age our body’s ORP becomes higher because we are
oxidizing. The Fountainhead
Waterwell© -Alkaline, Ionized water has a negative ORP
therefore it offsets the higher ORP of our body as we are aging.
Thus we counteract the aging process by putting negatively
charged water which somewhat dampens the ever-rising ORP of our
oxidizing body. We should drink 5 glasses minimum of ionized water per day to
expect significant slowing and reversal of the aging process.
Examining
a fresh glass of strong ionized water right out of the tap, you will see
a cloud of tiny bubbles in the water.
Those are hydroxyl ions, which are oxygen molecules that have an
extra electron. That is the antioxidant, which is the centerpiece of ionized
water, its most valuable component.
Antioxidants have anti-aging and anti-disease properties because
they scavenge for free radicals. Ionized
water is a liquid antioxidant, therefore it is extremely effective and
more easily absorbed into the body than any other antioxidants.
Normal
tap water, with a pH of 7 is approximately neutral on the pH scale of 0
to 14. When measured with an ORP (oxidation potential) meter its redox
potential is approximately +400 to +500 mV. Because it has a positive
redox potential, it is apt to acquire electrons and oxidize other
molecules. Reduced ionized water, on the other hand, has a negative
redox potential of approximately -250 to -350 mV. This means it has a
large mass of electrons ready to donate to electron-thieving active
oxygen.
Redox
potential is the crucial factor
Traditionally
we have judged the properties of water from the standpoint of pH, in
other words whether water is acidic or alkaline. According to Dr.
Yoshiaki Matsuo Ph.D., the inventor of the ionzer unit, "In my
opinion, redox potential is more important than pH. The importance of pH
is over emphasized. For example, the average pH of blood is 7.4 and
acidosis or alkalosis is defined according to deviation within the range
of 7.4 +- 0.005. But nothing has been discussed about ORP, or
oxidation-reduction potential."
The
pH of tap water is about pH 7, or neutral. When tap water is
electrolyzed into ionized water, its reduced water has a pH of about 9
and the oxidized water a pH of about 4. Even if you make alkaline water
of pH 9 by adding sodium hydroxide or make acidic water of pH 3 by
adding hydrogen chloride, you will find very little change in the ORP
values of the two waters. On the other hand, when you divide tap water
with electrolysis you can see the ORP fluctuate by as much as +/-
1,000 mV.
By
electrolysis we can obtain reduced water with negative potential that is
good for the body.
|
|
|
It is
true that drinking ionized water gives you energy.
On the surface, it seems like an outrageous claim that drinking
water can give you energy. However
we all know that providing the body with oxygen will give us energy.
Ionized water possesses an abundance of oxygen, which is one of
the reasons bacteria does not live in alkaline, ionized water much more
than 40 seconds. The reason
is because the negative ORP is a hostile environment to bacteria.
Energy
that is derived from oxygen is the best energy a person can have because
it has not been derived from an artificial source such as caffeine,
sugar or other stimulants, which are more like rushes that invariably
end in some kind of crash. When
we eat too much of sugar for instance, our body produces insulin to
counteract the sudden influx of excess sugar and we experience a
sugar/insulin crash. A few
too many of those and you end up a diabetic, especially if it runs in
the family.
However,
with oxygen it’s an entirely different story.
You never get a rush and you never get a crash.
Energy derived from oxygen is natural.
Oxygen makes you alert and invigorated.
It picks you up slowly and lets you down slowly as it is used up.
People who drink ionized water on a regular basis don’t notice
how much energy is does give them until the fourth or fifth day after
they stop drinking it.
For
someone with cancer, the high oxygen level found in ionized water is
particularly helpful since oxygen destroys cancer cells which is why
cancer patients are often tired all the time. By drinking ionized water
on a regular basis the amount of oxygen in the blood will increase.
This is helpful in fighting many diseases since oxygen is a
poison to bacteria and the more we can get into our blood stream the
better.
Active/Unstable
Oxygen:
Oxygen
is essential to survival. It is relatively stable in the air, but when
too much is absorbed into the body it can become active and unstable and
has a tendency to attach itself to any biological molecule, including
molecules of healthy cells. The chemical activity of these free radicals
is due to one or more pairs of unpaired electrons.
About
2% of the oxygen we normally breathe become active oxygen, and this
amount increases to approximately 20% with aerobic exercise.
|
|
 |
Such
free radicals with unpaired electrons are unstable and have a high
oxidation potential, which means they are capable of stealing
electrons from other cells. This chemical mechanism is very useful
in disinfectants such as hydrogen peroxide and ozone that can be
used to sterilize wounds or medical instruments. Inside the body
these free radicals are of great benefit due to their ability to
attack and eliminate bacteria, viruses and other waste products. |
|
|
|
Active
Oxygen in the body
Problems
arise, however, when too many of these free radicals are turned loose in
the body where they can also damage normal tissue.
Putrefaction
sets in when microbes in the air invade the proteins, peptides, and
amino acids of eggs, fish and meat. The result is an array of unpleasant
substances such as: |
|
-
Hydrogen
sulfide & Ammonia (tissue
toxins)
-
Histamines
(causes allergic disorders e.g
asthma, atopic dematitis, hives)
-
Indoles
& Phenols (carcinogenic)
-
Scatoles
|
|
These
substances are also produced naturally in the digestive tract when we
digest food, resulting in the unpleasant odour evidenced in faeces.
Microbes in the air cause putrefaction of spoiled food; this natural
process is duplicated in the digestive tract by intestinal microbes. All
these waste products of digestion are pathogenic; that is, they can
cause disease in the body.
Hydrogen
sulfide and ammonia are tissue toxins that can damage the liver.
Histamines contribute to allergic disorders such as atopic dermatitis,
urticaria (hives) and asthma. Indoles and phenols are considered
carcinogenic.
Because
waste products such as hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, histamines, phenols
and indoles are toxic, the body's defense mechanisms try to eliminate
them by releasing neutrophils (a type of leukocyte, or white corpuscle).
These neutrophils produce active oxygen, oddball oxygen molecules that
are capable of scavenging disintegrating tissues by gathering electrons
from the molecules of toxic cells.
Problems
arise, however, when too many of these active oxygen molecules, or free
radicals, are produced in the body. They are extremely reactive and can
also attach themselves to normal, healthy cells and damage them
genetically. These active oxygen radicals steal electrons from normal,
healthy biological molecules. This electron theft by active oxygen
oxidizes tissue and can cause disease.

Effects
of Oxidation on Vital Organs
|
|
| Oxidized Tissue
|
Leads to: |
|
|
Hepatitis,
cirrhosis, cancer, Pancreatitis, diabetes, cancer Nephritis,
nephrosis, cancer |
|
|
|
Because
active oxygen can damage normal tissue, it is essential to scavenge this
active oxygen from the body before it can cause disintegration of
healthy tissue. If we can find an effective method to block the
oxidation of healthy tissue by active oxygen, then we can attempt to
prevent disease. |
|
|
Hydrogen
sulfide, ammonia, histamines, indoles, phenols, and
scatoles present in the digestive tract of the human body. |
|
|

|
|
In
order to protect the body from damage by hydrogen sulfide,
ammonia, histamines, indoles, phenols, and scatoles,
neutrophils (leukocytes) produce active oxygen to oxidize
these waste products. |
|
|

|
| Excess
production of active oxygen occurs. |
|
|

|
|
Excess
active oxygen can damage normal, healthy biological cell
molecules and alter their genetic codes.
|
|
|
|
|
Antioxidants
block dangerous oxidation
One
way to protect healthy tissue from the ravages of oxidation caused by
active oxygen is to provide free electrons to active oxygen radicals,
thus neutralizing their high oxidation potential and preventing them
from reacting with healthy tissue.
Much
of the damage caused by carcinogenic substances in food may come about
because of an oxidation reaction in the cell. In this process, an
oddball oxygen molecule may damage the cell's genetic code. Some
researchers believe that substances that prevent oxidation -- called
ANTIOXIDANTS -- can block the damage. This leads naturally to the theory
that the intake of natural antioxidants could be an important aspect of
the body's defense against cancer. Substances that some believe inhibit
cancer include vitamin C, vitamin E, beta-carotene, selenium, and
gluthione (an amino acid). These substances are reducing agents. They
supply electrons to free radicals and block the interaction of the free
radical with normal tissue.
How we
can avoid illness
As
we mentioned earlier, the presence of toxic waste products such as
hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, histamines, indoles, phenols and scatoles
impart an offensive odor to human faeces. In the medical profession, it
is well known that patients suffering from hepatitis and cirrhosis pass
particularly odoriferous stools.
Excessively
offensive stools caused by the presence of toxins are indicators of
certain diseases, and the body responds to the presence of these toxins
by producing neutrophil leukocytes to release active oxygen in an
attempt to neutralize the damage to organs that can be caused by such
waste products. But when an excess amount of such active oxygen is
produced, it can damage healthy cells as well as neutralize toxins.
This
leads us to the conclusion that we can minimize the harmful effect of
these active oxygen radicals by reducing them with an ample supply of
electrons.
|
|
IONIZED
WATER … THE NATURAL SOLUTION
There
is no substitute for a healthy balanced diet, especially rich in
antioxidant materials such as vitamin C, vitamin E, beta-carotene, and
other foods that are good for us. However, these substances are not the
best source of free electrons that can block the oxidation of healthy
tissue by active oxygen.
Water
treated by electrolysis to increase its reduction potential is the best
solution to the problem of providing a safe source of free electrons to
block the oxidation of normal tissue by free oxygen radicals. We believe
that reduced water, water with an excess of free electrons to donate to
active oxygen, is the best solution because:
|
|
-
The
reduction potential of water can be dramatically increased over
other antioxidants in food or vitamin supplements.
-
The
molecule weight of reduced water is low, making it fast acting and
able to reach all tissues of the body in a very short time
|
Ionized
Water Donates Electrons
When
taken internally, the reduced ionized water with its redox potential of
-250 to -350 mV readily donates its electrons to oddball oxygen radicals
and blocks the interaction of the active oxygen with normal molecules.

biological molecules are less susceptible to infection and disease. The
ionized water gives up an extra electron and reduces the active oxygen
(AO), thus rendering it harmless. The AO is reduced without damaging
surrounding biological molecules. Substances, which have the ability to
counteract active oxygen by supplying electrons, are called scavengers.
Reduced water, therefore, can be called scavenging water.
When
taken internally, the effects of reduced water are immediate. Ionized
water inhibits excessive fermentation in the digestive tract by reducing
indirectly metabolites such as hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, histamines,
indoles, phenols and scatoles, resulting in a cleaner stool within days
after reduced water is taken on a regular basis. In 1965 the Ministry of
Welfare of Japan announced that reduced water obtained from electrolysis
can prevent abnormal fermentation of intestinal microbes.
Low

Even
advocates of the importance of vitamin C in diet staples have to admit
that its potency, namely, the redox potential of this important vitamin,
rapidly diminishes with age and preparation for the dining table.
Carbohydrates, the main consituent of vegetables and fruit, have a
molecular weight of 180 whereas water has a much lower molecular weight
of 18. |

Ionized
water, with its low molecular weight and high reduction potential, makes
it a superior scavenging agent of active oxygen. But electrolysis inside
the unit not only charges
the reduced water with electrons; it also reduces the size of reduced
water molecule clusters.
Because
of the predominance of hydroxyl in ionized water, the water becomes
alkaline, meaning it has a high pH, somewhere between 8 and 10 depending
on which level the water ionizer is on.
At a pH of 10, ionized water becomes to taste salty so there is a
limit as to how strong ionized water should be consumed even though it
is not harmful to you at this level.
A pH of 9,5 is sufficiently high enough to satisfy the body’s
needs for oxygen, alkalinity, hydroxyl ions and proper hydration.
The
ease at which a pH of 10 or higher is achieved will depend on how slow
the water runs through the water ionizer and how high the mineral
content of the source water is. If
you tried to use purified, distilled or reverse osmosis water which has
no mineral content no ionization would occur.
There
are alkaline minerals and acid minerals and ionization will become
stronger on the alkaline side if there are alkaline minerals present and
stronger on the acid side if there are more acid minerals present.
An
acid is a substance that increases the concentration of hydrogen ions
(H+) in water. A base is a substance that decreases the concentration of
hydrogen ions, in other words, increasing the concentration of hydroxide
ions OH-.
The
degree of acidity or alkalinity of a solution is measured in terms of a
value known as pH, which is the negative logarithm of the concentration
of hydrogen ions:
pH
= 1/log[H+] = - log[H+]
What is
pH?
On
the pH scale, which ranges from 0 on the acidic end to 14 on the
alkaline end, a solution is neutral if its pH is 7. At pH 7, water
contains equal concentrations of H+ and OH- ions. Substances with a pH
less than 7 are acidic because they contain a higher concentration of H+
ions. Substances with a pH higher than 7 are alkaline because they
contain a higher concentration of OH- than H+. The pH scale is a log
scale so a change of one pH unit means a tenfold change in the
concentration of hydrogen ions.
Importance
of balancing pH
Living
things are extremely sensitive to pH and function best (with certain
exceptions, such as certain portions of the digestive tract) when
solutions are nearly neutral. Most interior living matter (excluding the
cell nucleus) has a pH of about 6.8.

Blood
plasma and other fluids that surround the cells in the body have a pH of
7.2 to 7.3. Numerous special mechanisms aid in stabilizing these fluids
so that cells will not be subject to appreciable fluctuations in pH.
Substances, which serve as mechanisms to stabilize pH, are called
buffers. Buffers have the capacity to bond ions and remove them from
solution whenever their concentration begins to rise. Conversely,
buffers can release ions whenever their concentration begins to fall.
Buffers thus help to minimize the fluctuations in pH. This is an
important function because many biochemical reactions normally occurring
in living organisms either release or use up ions.
The
fact that the ionized water we drink is alkaline is very important
because diseases thrive in an acidic environment and will not flourish
and thrive an alkaline environment.
If
a person has created an acidic environment in the body by years of
eating or putting acid substances in the body such as soft drinks, food
(meat, fish, rice,), pollution, stress, mental unrest, anger,
alcohol, drugs, cigarettes, etc then that person has opened
themselves up to any and all diseases.
The more acidic the more susceptible a person becomes to disease.
Acid wastes literally attack the joints, tissue, muscles, organs
and glands causing minor to major dysfunction.
One
of the keys to great health is keeping our bodies alkaline by drinking
plenty of ionized water
Ionized
water is sometimes called reduced water because typically water
molecules group together in clusters of 10 to 13 molecules.
Ionized water molecule clusters are split in half and grouped
into 5-6 water molecules, thus it is reduced in size. |
|
|
|
|
|
Through
electrolysis, reduced water not only gains an excess amount of electrons
(e-), but the cluster
of H2O seem to be
reduced in size from 10 – 13 molecules per cluster to 5 – 6
molecules per cluster.
The
ionized water molecule has also been changed from and irregular shape to
a regular hexagonal shape (such as snow flakes) that passes through our
body tissue more efficiently than conventional water.
It is this smaller, regular shape that hydrates anything much
more efficiently than conventional water.
The
Fountainhead Waterwell© has five levels of strength which
allows one to ease into ionized water when you first start drinking it.
The detoxification effect of ionized water requires some people
to start drinking it rather weak and building the strength over time. Headaches and diarrhea are common detoxification symptoms.
The
more toxins that a person has in a body, the weaker they should start
drinking ionized water so the detoxification effects are kept to a
minimum. For instance most
children can drink the strongest level of ionized water, however, with
the elderly it is just the opposite, as they may have a lifetime of
toxins accumulated in their bodies and are also on medications that need
to be detoxified. Drinking
ionized water will not interfere with the function of any medications a
person may be taking.
Ionized
water is up to six times more hydrating than conventional water at its
greatest strength. There
are some tangible effects of Ionized water regarding the small molecule
cluster. Soaking dried
beans of any kind in ionized water will cause them to hydrate
considerably faster and swell fatter because of its superior hydrating
properties.
NMR
(Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) analysis reveals that electrolysis reduces
water molecule clusters to about
half their normal size. |
|

|
|
As
the graph shows, the NMR signal that measures cluster size by line width
at half-amplitude shows 65 Hz for reduced water and 133 Hz for tap
water, revealing that the reduced water clusters are approximately half
the size of tap water clusters. |
|
|
|
|
|
That
is why Waterwell© ionized water is more readily absorbed by
the body than untreated tap water.
The ionized water quickly permeates the body and blocks the
oxidation of biological molecules by donating its abundant electrons to
active oxygen, enabling biological molecules to replace themselves
naturally without damage caused by oxidation that can cause diseases. |
